Marketing Director
Summary
Position: Director of Marketing
The position requires someone who enjoys a leadership position as all operations and corporate positions interact and work closely with this position. Strong organizational and prioritization skills are key, while serving as a mentor and assuming a team-oriented attitude will assure the highest level of success for this position.
Responsibilities
As Director of Marketing, this position will be primarily responsible for:
• Ensuring a consistently top tier marketing experience for our guests
• Enforcing culture and core values in all internal and external marketing communication
• Training and developing all teammates regarding our marketing initiatives, SOPs and procedures
• Maintaining and updating all back-office marketing systems
• Evaluating new systems that improve our marketing efficiency, programs and guest base
• Creating and following an established annual budget
• Negotiating contracts with vendors as appropriate
General Responsibilities:
• Reinforcement and consistent adherence to the highest-level of marketing communications at all times
• Communicate with the Director of Culinary Operations and Regional Directors of Operations on a consistent, if not daily, basis
• Full P&L responsibility for management of:
o PR
o Advertising
o Marketing
o Any other costs associated with marketing
• Leverage market data, seasonality of ingredients and consumer consumption trends to create recommendations on menu updates and additions
• Lead the execution of marketing programs from start to finish, leveraging internal support and driving collaboration
• Create and deliver marketing training materials for in-store and operations teams, with
• a focus on in-store look of success and seasonal marketing campaigns
• Leverage guest feedback into actionable change for the restaurants
• Troubleshoot marketing-related bottlenecks and system breakdowns/challenges in all restaurants
• Continuous development of culture to align with Knead Core Values/Culture
• On site at each restaurant an average of once per week
• Weekly evaluation and review of all websites and all web pages owned/operated by the Company to ensure clear, concise and consistent messaging
• Direct any staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control marketing programs as required
• Drive promotions for all Restaurants and ensure that promotions are appropriate for the local market
• Assist Restaurants in operationalizing local promotions such as happy hour, DJ nights and marketing events
• Assist with building a local hotel/residential/office concierge program to create/cement/evolve relationships with the local concierge teams to drive business from local community
• Maintain a data base with contacts and VIP’s which support Company initiatives
Culinary:
• Ensure our catering and event menus are first-class, current and representative in the market
• Work with the corporate team to ensure all menus, menu descriptions, event menus, websites and other methods of menu communication are correct, updated and professionally presented
Financial:
• Deep awareness of food and beverage cost so as to ensure profitability for all recommended programming
• Assist in the development of the annual marketing budget
New Restaurant Openings (NRO):
• Develop opening schedule for all new restaurants with Director(s) of Operations/Knead Principals to ensure milestone dates are scheduled and adhered to by all relevant parties
• Develop website, social media handles, menus and all other guest facing communication
• Coordinate with PR Firm to ensure proper grand opening coverage
• Maintain Friends and Family list and coordinate invitations, RSVPs and reservations with Restaurant General Manager
• Plan and execute non-NRO initiatives and support while managing and overseeing NRO marketing initiatives
• Coordinate with all departments to create and maintain a schedule of activities leading up to and supporting the opening of any new Restaurant
• Create and maintain a strategy for handling all planned growth and adapt as needed when growth plans change or when presented with new Company initiatives/priorities
• Manage the proper execution of all Marketing NRO processes, systems and standards
• Manage all marketing-related administrative tasks associated with each NRO before, during and after the opening in a timely fashion
Marketing and PR Plan Development and Execution
• Develop and implement strategic marketing plan(s) to achieve corporate objectives for the portfolio including developing promotional and advertising programs leveraging a variety of channels including both online ?e.g. social, CRM, digital etc.? and offline ?e.g. print, direct mail, etc.)
• Monitor competitor products, promotional and marketing activities and report business trends on a monthly Marketing Report
• Oversee market research to evaluate and adjust marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions
• Create and support a guest frequency program in alignment with the brand ethos and focused on long-term guest retention
• Create and support a VIP guest program with the brand ethos and focused on long-term guest retention
• Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners within the marketing and PR arenas
• Establish and maintain a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, partnerships, promotional materials, and events
• Assist other departments within the organization to prepare documents and support materials as required by the marketing and branding disciplines
• Network with community leaders along with Senior Leadership and Unit leaders to assist with community relations, and develop a database of community leaders
Brand Positioning Development and Operationalization
• Support and direct branding efforts, and own the brand positioning oversight and integration for KNEAD and all KNEAD entities
• Assist in identifying branding, marketing and PR firms that support the branding efforts
• Assist with Menu Development and ensure alignment with brand story and direction
• Develop and recommend product positioning, packaging, and assist with pricing strategy to produce the optimal revenue and profit for the organization in accordance with the brand positioning
Manage Marketing Budget Effectiveness
• Develop, deploy and control expenditures of marketing division to conform to budgetary requirement
• Assist in developing appropriate annual spends for marketing and PR efforts
• Prepare marketing activity reports showing targeted spend, ROI and present to Principals
• Ensure effective control of marketing results, and take corrective action to ensure that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets
• Review and analyze marketing performances against programs/targets, and work with accounting to ensure all insights are aligned with unit data
Qualifications and requirements
Requirements:
• BS degree preferred
• 5+ years’ experience running a marketing department for restaurants and preferably multiple restaurants and concepts simultaneously
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experiences and knowledgeable with industry software
• Strong/Stable work history
• Availability to work a flexible schedule
• Bilingual, a plus
• Fluent in both written and spoken English with excellent grammar and writing skills
• Ability to lift 30+ lbs. and push a cart weighing up to 100lbs.
• Polished and hospitable communication skills in both written and verbal formats
• Strong organizational and verbal communication skills
• Lead as a role model
• Extremely attentive to details
• Flexible availability per the needs of the business with occasional six day weeks and/or evenings as needed
